HOUSTON – A person was killed and two were critically injured during an illegal car meetup in northwest Houston Sunday, Harris County sheriff’s deputies said. Deputies said one driver has been charged in the incident.
Crews responded to the accident in the 14900 block of Northwest Freeway near West Little York Road around 9:29 p.m.
Deputies said Andrew Mock, 22, was driving a yellow 2018 Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed, traveling westbound on the service road, at 14900 Northwest Freeway. Mock struck the left rear of a black 2017 Chevrolet Malibu with the right front of his Camaro, deputies said.
Deputies said the collision caused the Malibu to travel off of the roadway and onto a sidewalk, which was occupied by pedestrians. The Malibu struck several pedestrians on the sidewalk, deputies said. Investigators said a man in his mid-30s suffered fatal injuries from the collision
Officials said two unidentified boys between the ages of 14 and 17 suffered serious bodily injuries from the collision and were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital Downtown by Life Flight.
Investigators said Mock was initially charged with one count of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault-reckless driving with serious bodily injury. However, authorities said one of the two teens injured at the scene died later Monday morning, so one of the assault charges was upgraded to manslaughter.
Mock is now charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault-reckless driving with serious bodily injury.
The crash remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
